22 The Future Always Begins Right Now

Every day that I paint, it’s feels like a chance to fall in love again, and for the first time.

To begin a journey of transformation, you must be willing to let go of what has held your world firmly in place. This is not always easy, and sometimes it feels like change comes as sudden turn, a dream that unexpectedly falls way, taking the ground out from underneath you.

Collectively our sense of reality, of how the world works and what is possible, as well how we imagine our future has been destabilized.

The title of this painting is The Future Always Begins Right now.

In it is a road of sparkling yellow, like yellow brick road leading to Oz. It curves in an S shape, like the S in my name and lifts off the ground into space.

It feels like this is the point in a story where things take off, the road turns in an unexpected direction, and takes off for places unknown,

All journeys are transformations in perception, a change from one mindset or way of being, into another more expansive one. To take this road, you travel, you may take a walk or transport yourself to a new situation and in the movement, the willingness to follow the road, to see where it takes you, you discover possibilities you could not have seen before, though they were always there offering themselves to you.

You go on the journey so as to make yourself available.

To make yourself available, you must cultivate the courage to let go and keep moving forward.

As Henry Miller put it, “All growth is a leap in the dark, a spontaneous unpremeditated act without benefit of experience.”
